By investing 4% of the 12.4% you already pay into social security in privatized account, you should have approximately $69,254.04 available to you at retirement in addition to a smaller traditional social security benefit.Privatizing Your Retirement Breakdowm

Your max privatized account contribution per year is 4% of your annual income - $133.33 per month for a total annual contribution of $1,600.00.

Invested over 16 years from age 49 to age 65.

Your monthly draw after retirement will be approximately $461.12. This draw accounts for an inflation rate of 3%.

This plan should leave your privatized retirement nest egg, $69,254.04, untouched to pass along as inheritance for your family.

  A touch of food poisoning...
I got a touch of food poisoning yesterday -- the only place I ate was the T/A truck stop at Columbia, New Jersey. The meal I ordered came with the salad bar, which was just about to be taken down for the evening. I didn't eat much off of it but it was enough to make me sick. I had a rough sleep (the effects of it hit me in my sleep) but am feeling better now -- I'm just extra tired. I'm delivering Wednesday (first-come-first serve) near Toledo, Ohio.

I inadvertently created a religious firestorm on the XM Radio Group after I mentioned canceling my account. Maybe the group should be renamed the XM Worship Group... The links for today's show are:

http://www.xmradio.com -- the main XM Satellite Radio website -- I called them up to cancel the account in my pickup today -- my call got transferred to a "cancelation specialist" -- I sort of got the feeling I was trying to cancel and AOL account !!!! Afterwards, I posted a message to an XM Radio Yahoo Group relating my cancelation experience, and I inadvertently touched off a firestorm!!! I canceled my membership in the Yahoo Group too -- I immediately got the feeling that this irrational reaction was like offending a religious cult. Jeeeze!!!!!!!!

  March 26, 2005...

"Low Coolant" the dashboard display flashed. It actually happened TWO more times. The first one occurred at Walcott, Iowa at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop, where I'd stopped to eat lunch. I came back out to the truck and and just a split second after the motor started here came the warning. To make a long story short, it turned out that the first reservoir was defective even though it was a new part from Freightliner. That got replaced, and I thought all was well and good.

Not to be. Later that evening I was traveling along the Indiana Turnpike when I discovered courtesy of another driver that the tail lights on the trailer I was pulling had completely stopped working, making it necessary for me to drive a distance with my emergency flashers flashing so people coming up behind me could see the back of my truck. I stopped at the T/A truck stop shop at Stony Ridge, Ohio the next day and got them to fix it. When I was starting the truck back up to pull it into their shop, once again the "low coolant" warning flashed and the alarm beeper sounded (that sucker is loud!!!). The fellow looked at it after he fixed the trailer's tail lights (which turned out to be a broken wire) and he found that one of the caps on the reservoir was not properly seated with its rubber gasket.

It turned out that the receiver could not receive the load on Friday (I'm sure they were closed due to it being "Good Friday), so the delivery was rescheduled till early Monday morning. My fleet manager had me come to the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area where they were going to have me drop the trailer, but later Friday she said that freight was light and she didn't have another load for me to pull, so I had to stay hooked to the one I have. I've been sitting at the Carlisle, Pennsylvania Flying J truck stop since very early Friday morning.

Since I am in Carlisle, I called the "Visual Addictions" tattoo shop and talked to the owner to see if he could hook me up with a tattoo, but it turns out he was all booked up, which I expected. So, I've been sitting here in my truck playing on the Internet most of the time. That's the way things go sometimes.

If I ever make it over to New Jersey I'll unload there first thing Monday morning.

  March 22, 2005...
Problems, problems, problems. Lately I've had a string of problems since I switched from the Mack to this Freightliner. A few days ago I was going by the main company yard and I stopped to get an electrical system problem fixed. I ended up getting to spend a couple of nights at home. They dispatched me on a load that picked up at Noel, Missouri, but when I got to the yard to leave there were no empty trailers available. I finally got an empty trailer on Sunday. Yesterday I was near Lincoln, Nebraska when I had a trailer tire blow out. Normally that would be no big deal, except that it took the company over three hours to finally tell me where to go to get the tire fixed.

This afternoon I was just west of Omaha, Nebraska and a "low coolant" light flashed on my dash and the computer shut the engine down when I was going through a construction zone with narrow lanes. I barely made it to a place on the shoulder where I could pull off. A "motorist assist" van brought me some water and I was able to nurse the truck to a truck stop about 4 miles up the road. I ended up getting the coolant reservoir replaced.

So all of these problems have me wondering if it's time for me to think about changing trucking companies. It seems that the company I'm currently working for is starting to cut corners in order to reduce costs. The big thing was that seems like a huge red flag to me was with them replacing an aging used Mack with an aging used Freightliner that only has 150,000 miles less on it than the Mack did.

Anyway, I've got the coolant reservoir fixed and I'm about to head on east some more. This reservoir problem will likely push my delivery date out to Friday the 25th. Originally I was supposed to deliver in New Jersey on the 24th.

Tom talks about companies giving employees too much of a workload, causing the job to not get done properly. I also rant about liberals wanting to destroy freedom of speech so they can have their way politically.

  March 15, 2005...

After I unloaded at Tulsa, Oklahoma, I reloaded late that night in Joplin, Missouri with a load going to Jacksonville, Florida that delivered very early in the morning on March 14th. I had a bit of a problem at Joplin getting the trailer's reefer unit to start -- someone finally came out and jump-started it.

After I got unloaded early yesterday morning at Jacksonville, they didn't have a reload for me until 1:00 AM on the 16th at Bradenton, Florida. Right now I'm backed into a door waiting for them to load the new load, which delivers to Hammond, Louisiana at 9:00 AM on the 17th.

I'm pulling the same trailer, and the stupid reefer unit won't start again. I'm hoping they won't notice. Once I get the load loaded I can head to someplace to get it repaired, or at least jump-started.

I'm starting to have my doubts about the long-term viability of the company I drive for. Lately they've been making some obvious money-tightening moves that they've never had to make in the past. They've really clamped down on how much advance money they will advance to a driver. Secondly, they are now buying high-mileage used trucks as replacement trucks. And now they are trying to cut the costs of outside on-the-road repairs. The trailers are slowly becoming more and more junky. Unfortunately I think the handwriting is on the wall. There are plenty of other carriers out there looking for drivers, so finding another driving job really isn't a problem. This company in particular has been very convenient for me to work for since they are located only 23 miles from my house, but I may have to find something else regardless sooner or later.

  March 11, 2005...
I came back to work on March 7th after several days off.

While I was off work, they decided to retire the Mack truck I've been driving for about a year an nine months. Now I'm in a Freightliner. They used to always buy new trucks, but now they are buying used trucks. The Mack had 649,000 miles on it. I was shocked when I discovered the Freightliner I'm now driving has just under 500,000 miles on it. They only gained 150,000 miles so I really don't see the point. A year and a half from now this truck I'm in now will have as many or more miles on it than the Mack had. Oh well, as long as it runs, the air conditioner and heater work, they keep me busy, and my paychecks continue to be direct deposited I could really care less.

I unloaded this morning at Tulsa, Oklahoma with a load I picked up in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm reloading this evening with a load here at Joplin, Missouri with a load going to Jacksonville, Florida.

DaveRamsey.Com Social Security reform calculator http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/social_security/ -- calculate how much you would have with only 4% going into the government's "C" fund. This is what the calculator calculated for me:
